This book was written by Korean feminist Hye-Sok Na in 1930. She, as a painter, writer, and feminist, wrote many essays about the gender issue. “Divorce Confession” especially, contains her personal story, progressive ideas about divorce, and gender inequality.
To redesign this old book, I interpreted this book as her independent, courageous but lonely story. Based on my interpretation, the antique chair on the cover represents her loneliness as a woman who had to divorce and left her kids. Also, because this book contains her paintings, the texture on the background means her commitment to her paintings.
Divorce Confession was written in 1930 when vertical writing was more common. To symbolize the traditional style, I used the vertical subtitle as a design motif.
